Development log

Built in the open, one entry at a time

Notes from the actual development of VeltrixOS — what changed, what broke, and what got fixed. No marketing gloss, just the log.

Splitting 0.2.0 into two releases: 0.1.2 and 0.2.0

The previously announced 0.2.0 milestone is being split into two smaller releases instead of shipping as one big update.

0.1.2 will land first, adding proper support for Ventoy and other bootable-USB creation tools.

0.2.0 will follow with improved GPU driver support and a Plymouth boot splash screen.

VPM is coming — targeting late 2026 / early 2027

VeltrixOS's next milestone, 0.2.0, will ship without VPM. Instead it focuses on fixing GPU driver support beyond amdgpu and llvmpipe, adding proper Ventoy support for bootable USB drives, and general ISO bug fixing.

VPM itself — the source-based package manager at the core of VeltrixOS's long-term design — is being held back until it can build the full system unattended, without hand-holding. That's a high bar, and it's why we're not rushing a half-working release.

Current target for a VPM-ready release is the turn of 2026 into 2027. Progress will keep showing up here as it happens.

Older x86_64 hardware support, ISO v0.1.1 released

Added support for older x86_64 hardware, so VeltrixOS boots and runs on a wider range of machines rather than assuming a recent CPU.

Released ISO v0.1.1 — the current experimental image, available on the download page.

First experimental ISO released — v0.1.0

Released the first public experimental ISO of VeltrixOS, v0.1.0.

No support yet for older x86_64 hardware at this point — that landed a week later in v0.1.1.
